WHAT is a Roadworthy Certificate?
A Certificate of Roadworthiness (RWC) is a certificate that deems your vehicle to be safe and ready for transfer at point of sale. IT IS NOT HOWEVER, a be all and end all certificate of the vehicle’s condition as it does not cover service items and non-safety related items such as air conditioning or audio systems or other electronics equipped in the vehicle. This certificate is valid for 30 days after issue.
WHO needs a RWC?
In Victoria a Roadworthy Certificate is required when a vehicle is being sold. The owner of the vehicle must provide a current roadworthiness certificate to the buyer, unless the buyer is a spouse or a motor vehicle trader.
A vehicle can be sold without an RWC if it is currently not registered; however, if the used vehicle is to be re-registered, an RWC will be needed. In some cases a Roadworthy Certificate is also needed to clear a vehicle defect notice (should to police require one).
WHAT is covered in an RWC?
The inspection is a check of the vehicle to ensure that the key components are in a fit condition for safe road use. It includes:
– wheels and tyres
– steering, suspensions and braking systems
– seats and seatbelts
– lights and reflectors
– windscreen, and windows including front wipers and washers
– vehicle structure
– Other safety related items on the body, chassis or engine.
The roadworthiness test is not a check of a vehicle’s mechanical reliability or overall condition. If you would like a comprehensive report on the vehicle, please arrange with us at Titan Auto Care and we will be happy to also do a separate report (extra fees will be incurred for this service).
WHO can do this inspection?
Any licenced Roadworthy tester can carry out a Roadworthy Certificate check. We at Titan Auto Care are licenced roadworthy testers and can do this vehicle inspection for you.
